Executive Summary: The main objective of the study was to compare the efficacy of both phytase and protease products from two emerging companies (B and C) from China against well-established enzyme products from D company from Europe by evaluating growth performance, carcass yields, and economic efficiency. The study was conducted at the Broiler Research Unit of Maverick Innovation, Kaliakair, Gazipur, Bangladesh following internationally accepted welfare and ethical standards for chickens and was approved by the Animal Care Committee (ACC) of Maverick Innovation. The facility is a state-of-the-art system consisting of 64 broiler pens.
During the feeding trial, the temperature and relative humidity at the bird’s level was maintained at optimum level for the broiler birds. Body weight, body weight gain, and feed intake were similar across the different groups. The final feed conversion ratio (FCR), feed efficiency, European Performance Efficiency Factor (EPEF), European Broiler Index (EBI), protein efficiency ratio (PER), and energy efficiency ratio (EER) were significantly the highest in the T2 group, where protease and phytase of “B” company were provided.
Lower breast meat percentages were obtained in the T1 group, where protease and phytase enzymes of “D” company were supplemented. However, all other carcass metrics were statistically non-significant among the treatment groups.
In terms of economic viability, the T2 group achieved the highest gross profit per live bird, the gross profit per kg live bird, and benefit-cost ratio compared to T1 group.
In conclusion, the protease and phytase supplementation of “B” company improved feed utilization, breast meat, and better economic return compared to the protease and phytase supplementation of “D” company.
